A 10-minute walk down the beach brings you to Frederico’s snorkeling spot, and a 20 minute walk from Mamolis snorkeling spot.
Game drives at Gorongosa national park– 30 minutes away, where you can have a day picnic around one of the lakes, and if you are lucky you might sight the elephants.
Alternatively deep sea fishing, scuba diving and ocean safaries – Ask the manager to organise.
Quad bikes, surfboards, and kite surfing equipment can be hired and lessons are available in Ponta do Ouro.
Turtles lay their eggs between November and February, which you can witness if you take a stroll on the beach in the evenings after dark. The hatchlings make their way to the ocean from January to March.
Humpback and Southern Right Whale sightings are prolific from July to November. Pods of dolphins can be seen all year round.
If you wanting to get to the hustle and bustle then it’s a mere 25-minute drive to Ponta Malongane Village where there are various restaurants.
Ponta do Oura is 55min away. In Ponta do Ouro you will find a bottle store, BCI bank (local Mozambican Bank), surf shops, fishing tackle shop, pharmacy, internet cafe, petrol station, a colourful food market where you can buy fruit and vegetables grown locally, alcohol, cigarettes, prawns, bread and the like.
The local currency is the Mozambican Metical, but everyone welcomes Rands.
